C.34. Mass in the wood Monaco. 1st Nov. 1917. Photographed from behind a large group of soldiers stands in a forest facing a makeshift altar built between the trees and decorated with garlands of evergreen draped above it. Rows of barbed wire barricades can be glimpsed amongst the men, and in the distant background are rows of wooden crosses.
