Context:
Soft-paste porcelain was first made in France at Rouen in a factory owned by the Poterat family. Faience was the chief product of this factory. Contemporary records are sparse, and there is disagreement among experts on the identification of Rouen porcelain, but this vase belongs to a small group of porcelains commonly ascribed to the Poterat family.
