The 1st edition, 1st state. A rare early state of Finley's 1st edition. Many differences between this state and the more common second state - the index lists Eastern Hemisphere as no. 1, Rhode Island as no. 12, and Connecticut as no. 11. The North America map does not show James' Peak and some rivers in the northern part of Canada. The United States map is much less detailed, and many of the state maps do not include counties, towns, roads, and rivers that appear in the second state. There is also inserted a single page advertisement for Finley's Map of the United States in the rear. The atlas has been rebound with the maps placed on tabs and in some cases reversed from their original positions - which original positions seem unusual, as if the book was put together in a hurry. In color. Relief shown by sketches.
