Description:
Technical description: One piece spruce soundboard with small added pieces to make up the width at the lower bouts. Soundboard appears to have been stained to darken it. Soundhole 82mm diameter. Purfling decoration around the soundhole consists of light (maple) and dark brown (probably stained maple) bands, arranged to give an inner section with three wide dark strips, each approximately 2mm wide are surrounded on the inner and outer sides by thin bands (each approximately 0.5mm wide) of dark/light/dark/dark/light/dark colouring. A second band, in between the edge of the soundboard and the inner purfling consists of the thin strips arranged in a dark/light/dark (×|3)/light/dark pattern. The edging around the soundboard consists of a dark hardwood (walnut(?)) band, with the thin strips arranged in a dark/light/dark (×|2)/light/ dark pattern inside. The bridge is ebony, rectangular in section 93mm long and 23.5mm wide, with ebony teardrop additions at either side, ending with ebony dot terminals with ivory eyes. There is no separate bridge saddle, the speaking length being defined by the height of the front edge of the bridge. Six bridge pins of rosewood with ivory eyes. Back and sides of lightly figured bookmatched maple, the figure on the back rising from the centre to the sides. Back and sides varnished. Edging between the sides and back of dark hardwood, probably walnut. The same wood is used as a centreline at the back, and at the bottom, with thin dark/light/dark strips either side. There is a large (24mm diameter) ivory button at the bottom, and two smaller ivory buttons at the back, one at each end. Black painted heel, neck and head. The heel flows smoothly into the neck, and there is a V|joint between the neck and head, which has had dowels inserted to give extra strength. Typical Panormo head shape with concave head-top. Brass machine heads with ivory buttons and rollers, labelled "EON & FILS" at the top of each plate. Fingerboard of walnut, raised above and glued to the soundboard. 18 brass bar frets, each 0.8mm wide. Neck width 44.3mm at the nut, 54.5mm at the body join. Nut of ebony. Repair History: Several soundboard cracks repaired.
