Technical description: A copy of the remains of an instrument found on the warship Mary Rose which sank in 1545. Made in two sections the upper of boxwood the lower of cherry wood. Both have been stained black which is the colour of the original as it was found. The mechanism for the keys would have been largely obscured by two fontanelles also in cherry wood pierced with holes in circular patterns, there are marks of metal rings fitted at each end of each. The instrument has a cylindrical bore giving a low range for the length. Keymount type: Blocks
