The L2 ring and the L1 pierced-plate are linked by an axle on the left side of the instrument, they are connected to a hole between L1 and L2 which is closed by either or both of these touches, this enables a forked C to be played (with just L2 plus some right hand fingers to `focus' the tone) while still keeping the open C♯ in tune.
