Description:
STS-42 crewmembers pose for a traditional onboard (in-space) portrait in the shirt-sleeve environment of the International Microgravity Laboratory 1 (IML-1) spacelab (SL) module located in the payload bay (PLB) of Discovery, Orbiter Vehcile (OV) 103. Clockwise from Mission Specialist (MS) Norman E. Thagard, whose head is blocked by the space acceleration measurement system (SAMS) center aisle equipment, are Pilot Stephen S. Oswald, Payload Specialist Roberta L. Bondar, MS David C. Hilmers, Commander Ronald J. Grabe, MS William F. Readdy, and Payload Specialist Ulf D. Merbold. Several of the crewmembers hold their positions by using the IML-1 rack handrails as foot restraints.
