Composite of Hand colored outline Vandermaelen 4-sheet map of North America which was first issued in 1831, to compete with the large format maps of by Arrowsmith, Tanner, Wyld, and Brue. This 1834 edition has been substantially revised and updated, covers all of North America including Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central America, and the West Indies. Double page sheets 56x70, bound into covers 65x43, with "Carte De L'Amerique Septle" on spine. Shows boundaries, some cities and towns, forts, Indian tribal territory, the old Mexican boundary to California, with detail in upper California, locating San Francisco, Monterey, etc, and the river system in Alta California and Oregon Territory, The region between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains is shown, with the addition of numerous Indian Tribes and Territories and a more advanced depiction of the river system feeding the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. Relief shown by hachures and shadings. Includes list of European possessions in West Indies.
