Thompson published county atlases in Illinois in the early 1870's with Lewis Everts; he came to California in the mid 1870's and over the next two decades published six California county atlases: Alameda, Solano, Tulare, Santa Clara, Fresno, and Sonoma. Bound in embossed half leather dark green cloth covered boards with "New Historical Atlas Of Sonoma County, California. Illustrated. Thos. H. Thompson & Co. 1877." stamped in gilt on the front cover and blind stamped on the back.
