JSC2006-E-16507 (October 2004) --- NASA researchers anticipate a drill similar to the futuristic planetary drill tested in the Canadian Arctic will one day be used as field equipment by astronauts to bore into Mars? polar caps or be mounted on robots for early exploration expeditions. Jeff George, left, manager of the Planetary Drill Project, and JSC engineers, Brian Derkowski, Mike Drever, and Tim Cooper used the drill to gather core samples for scientific study during the two week field test.
