Werner, shown by his initials "JBW" of Livingston Kansas (see Cram Minnesota map for his signature when he lived in Norwood, Minnesota). The first edition is listed by Karrow as appearing in Cram's 1875 New Commercial Atlas of the U.S. with the first appearance in pocket form in 1876. Cram did a larger map of Missouri in 1869 (see our 1870 and 1871 copies). Full color.

This large scale map was part of a huge and comprehensive railroad map of the United States, first issued by Rand McNally in 1888 (see our 5802). This is probably a reduced scale issue of our #3117, first issued in 1885. Outline color by state. Dissected into 32 sections. Map has a brown marbled paper end sheet and folds into a new gray cloth folding case 29x23 with "Shippers' Railroad Map Rand McNally 1909" stamped in gilt along the spine.
