Double hemisphere hand colored map of the world, by Pierre Mariette, based upon the earlier map of Hondius from 1617. Embelished with allegorical spandrel vigenttes representing celestial hemispheres, north and south poles, sailing ships and sea monsters. Shows North America extending to Japan, course of the St. Laurence River ends in the American Southwest, Japan shown as a oddly shaped island, also shows Great wall of China. Map includes detail notations from Marco Polo, most notably the place name Beach in Terra Australis Incognita. Relief shown pictorially. Includes text.
