Note
Part of the Ornamental map type series. The map is surrounded by views of farmers and Indians, portrait of John Hancock in decorative cartouche is below the title, the Boston Tea Party is shown, seals of New England states in upper left corner, and the same whaling vignette is repeated five times. This is the "cheap" production for which this publisher is well known during the late 40's. The method of printing is hard to determine - it is either wood block, litho, or cerograph. Full color by county. Relief shown by hachures. Prime meridians are Greenwich and Washington, D.C.

Note
The map extends west to the beginning of Texas. There are three inset maps: Western U.S., Southern Part of Florida, and Oregon. Under the title is a beautiful eagle and globe cartouche, floating on clouds above an America bristling with "improvements," such as steamships, railroads, factories, etc. The ornamental border incorporates statistical information on all the States. This is a later edition of our 1847 copy, #1823.000 The copyright date is 1845. Karrow 1-1550 is the same map with no Oregon inset map. WIth full color by county, states outlined in dark pink. Originally a wall map but no longer with top and bottom rollers.
