Note
First map issued by the Ordnance Survey, although published by William Faden. The is an early Margary state without the Royal Military Canal (completed in 1809), When the Ordnance Survey adopted the grid system for its maps in 1805, these four sheet lines for Kent were superseded by slightly different sheet lines. Description: uncolored map of the County of Kent in England and part of the County of Essex on sheet 118x176. Dissected to 32 sections, 30x22, and mounted on linen, placed in leather case 31x23. Relief shown by hachures. Prime meridian is Greenwich. Map showing roads, towns and villages, farmlands and topographical features. Includes Coat of arms at head of title. In lower right corner "To the most noble Charles Marquis Cornwallis and the rest the principal officers of His Majesty's Ordnance this map is respectfully dedicated by their most obedient & faithful servant W. Mudge, Drawing Room Tower, January 1st 1801".
