Derived from the Finley 1826 American Atlas map and issued originally by Mitchell in 1831, this edition has many changes topographically and a new border. The western part of the old Arkansas Territory is now called "Indian Territory Attached to Arkansas." There are many new counties in Missouri and Arkansas, and a table of steam boat routes appear in the lower right corner of the map. The detail in the surrounding states is now filled in. This map covers about the same area as the David Burr map (see our #5024) but shows the boundary between Texas and Louisiana more correctly. Three text insets are titled "Remarks on Texas," "Land Grants," and "Rivers of Texas." A scarce, important early Texas map, not listed in Martin and Martin. Full color.
