Note
This is the early 1845 issue with Iowa Territory extending north of the later state borders, Michigan counties undeveloped in the northern peninsula, the copyright date still 1833, and the smaller ornamental borders of the 1841 issue. Later in the year Mitchell changed the map substantially (see our #4223). The John Arrowsmith delineation is used in the Great Basin. Insets include the United States, south part of Florida, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, north part of Maine, Rochester, Niagara Falls, Albany, Baltimore and Washington, and Charleston. With black top and bottom rollers, and dark green cloth edging. Full color by county.

Note
The border is changed and enlarged slightly from the 1841 edition, and the inset map of North America incorporates information from the John Arrowsmith Map of British North America in the Great Basin. New counties are added in Iowa, which is no longer a territory, and the counties in the northern Michigan penisula are fully develped. The copyright date has been changed to 1845. Insets show the United States, south part of Florida, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, north part of Maine, Rochester, Niagara Falls, Albany, Baltimore and Washington, and Charleston. With black top and bottom rollers. Full color by county.
