This 1859 edition was published by Charles Desilver, copyright dates have been updated to 1859 or 1860, and was most likely issued in late 1859 or early 1860. The maps bear the copyright and imprint of Charles Desilver 714 Chesnut Street. Changes from the 1859 edition includes a new map of Pennsylvania, two double page map of Kansas by W.H. Holmes, and map of Mexico, with no pagination, as well as a double page map of Northern Italy replaces map of Sardinia (Pl. 63), also various updates to individual maps. Maps in full color. Title page includes the vignette of the "First Landing of Columbus in the New World". Atlas includes 78 plate, some double page. Bound in half red leather brown paper covered boards.

Note
U.S. Map by Drake/Hazard shows many new railroads compared to the 1856 edition. The Mitchell/Young U.S. map adds Dakota, Arizona, and many new railroad routes. This was the last year of Desilver publishing Mitchell's guide (although Buck claims to have seen an 1864 (?) issue). Enlarged catalogue of Desilver publications (which mention no map or atlas publications, indicating that Desilver was phasing out the map business, just as Mitchell's son was starting the New General Atlas edition). Bound into blue cloth covers with "Mitchell's New Traveller's Guide Through The United States" and a beautiful illustration stamped in gilt (which is changed from the 1856 edition). Outline color in both maps.

Note
The contents calls for only one map but a second new map is added of the entire U.S., from the Mitchell Universal Atlas plate. The Drake1856 map adds J.L. Hazzard to the title and compared to the 1855 issue shows several new proposed railroads, particularly in the area west of the Missouri River (possibly the proposed Pacific Railroad routes). The Mitchell/Young U.S. map is slightly different from the same map in the 1856 Universal Atlas, in its showing of the Pacific Railroad routes. Bound in dark green leather covers with "Mitchell's New Traveler's Guide Through The United States" and a beautiful illustration stamped in gilt. The two insets in the first map are titled "Gold Region Of California" and "District Of Columbia". Both maps in outline color. Prime meridians are in Washington D.C. and Greenwich.
